Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD): Summer Reading Challenge: CRCSD hosts a Summer Reading Challenge to encourage students to read throughout the summer. The challenge often includes reading logs, incentives, & recognition for students who meet their reading goals. Check your child’s school website or contact their teacher for specific details.
College Community School District: Reading Rockets Program: This program is designed for elementary school students to keep their reading skills sharp. It includes a list of recommended books & activities to engage students in fun reading tasks.
Kernels Summer Reading Program: Grand Slam Reading Program: In partnership with local libraries & schools, the Cedar Rapids Kernels offer a reading incentive program where children can earn free tickets to a Kernels baseball game. By meeting their reading goals, kids not only improve their literacy skills but also get to enjoy a day at the ballpark.
Hills Bank & Trust Company: Summer Reading Rewards Program: Hills Bank offers a unique reading program where children can earn money for their savings accounts by reading books. Kids can read up to 20 books during the summer, & for each book, they earn $2, which is deposited into their savings account. This program encourages both reading & financial literacy.
Cedar Rapids Public Library: Summer Reading Challenge: The Summer Dare Program is a comprehensive reading initiative that includes a variety of challenges & activities designed to keep kids engaged. Participants can earn badges & prizes by completing reading logs & attending library events. The program is tailored for different age groups, ensuring that everyone from toddlers to teens can participate.
Storytime Sessions: The library offers regular storytime sessions for younger children, which are a great way to introduce them to the joy of reading. These sessions are interactive & often include songs & crafts.
